Flood Relief Appeal for Punjab India
Millions of people in Punjab India have been devastated by heavy monsoon rains, flash floods, and landslides. In just a few weeks, the country received rainfall far above the seasonal average, causing widespread destruction. Entire villages have been submerged, roads cut off, and families displaced.
The worst-hit states, including Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, are witnessing severe humanitarian crises as thousands struggle without food, shelter, and medical aid.

Whole districts are submerged, leaving no one above water. Several states in India are completely cut off from the rest of the country. There has been a complete loss of major road and rail infrastructure.
Flash floods caused by abnormally heavy monsoon rains have killed at least 1,200 people across Punjab India over the last two months and have displaced more than 500,000 people, according to officials.
- About 400 of the 1,200 deaths have been reported since the start of August.
- 30 million people have been impacted, with over 517,000 living in relief camps.
- More than 90,000 homes have been damaged by the floods.
- 150 bridges connecting cities and districts have been destroyed.
Thousands of marooned people are being evacuated by rescuers, aided by emergency response forces and volunteers. Tens of thousands of acres of agricultural land and crops have been flooded, and a large number of livestock have also perished. Families have lost their livelihoods and are now totally dependent on humanitarian assistance.
People are in immediate need of clean water, food, medical assistance, and shelter. The poorest and most vulnerable are on the frontline of this crisis.
